Customs officers seize illegal animal products at Deryneia crossing point

On August 1, 2026, customs officials at the Deryneia crossing point in Cyprus intercepted a vehicle attempting to transport a large quantity of animal products in violation of the Green Line Regulation. The vehicle was driven by a 43-year-old naturalized Cypriot woman, accompanied by a 47-year-old Greek Cypriot man.

The search of the vehicle's storage area revealed over 28 kilograms of prohibited goods, including 8 kilograms of fresh chicken pieces, 8 kilograms of chicken offal, 8.75 kilograms of whole chickens, 48 quail eggs, 700 grams of cheese, 1 liter of kefir, 2.25 kilograms of yogurt, and 275 grams of sausages. All seized products were slated for destruction.

The 43-year-old driver was initially arrested not only for the illegal import attempt but also for aggressive and inappropriate behavior toward the customs officer conducting the inspection. According to local news reports, she was later released after an out-of-court settlement for the offenses was accepted by the authorities.
