Nazi-era shipwrecks exposed by receding Danube water levels

Record-low water levels in the Danube River, caused by prolonged drought in the Balkans, have exposed a fleet of sunken German warships near the Serbian town of Prahovo. These vessels date back to World War II and were intentionally scuttled by Nazi forces in 1944 to prevent their capture by the advancing Soviet Army.

The reappearance of these wrecks now presents a significant hazard to contemporary river navigation.
