Court grants British father permission to attend son's funeral in UK
A 37-year-old British man, currently facing criminal charges in Cyprus for negligent supervision following the death of his three-year-old son, has been granted permission to temporarily travel to the United Kingdom. The child died after falling from the window of a hotel in the Paphos district. The Paphos District Court approved the request submitted by defense lawyer Alexandros Alexandrou on humanitarian grounds, acknowledging the father's need to attend the funeral and handle necessary custodial procedures.
Under the court's decision, the man's restrictive measures have been suspended from August 7 to September 14, 2026. As a condition for this travel, the defendant must provide an additional €10,000 cash guarantee and his confiscated travel documents will be returned two days before his departure. He is also exempt from the requirement to report to a police station during his time abroad. The man is expected to depart on Wednesday, August 5.
The judicial proceedings are set to resume on September 17, 2026. On that date, the defendant is expected to enter a plea regarding the charge of causing death through reckless, thoughtless, or dangerous acts.
