Paphos court permits father to attend son's funeral in UK

The Paphos District Court has granted a 37-year-old British man permission to temporarily travel to the United Kingdom to attend the funeral of his three-year-old son. The child died on July 12 after falling from a fourth-floor window of a hotel in Chlorakas, Paphos. The father, who faces charges of causing death through a reckless, careless, or dangerous act, had his travel restrictions temporarily lifted for humanitarian reasons and to fulfill his legal duties as the child’s guardian.

Under the court’s decision, the travel restrictions will be suspended from August 7 until September 14, 2026. As a condition for this relief, the court required an additional cash guarantee of €10,000 and ordered the return of his confiscated travel documents two days prior to his departure. During this period, the defendant is exempted from the requirement to report to a local police station, and his name will be removed from the stop list. The father is expected to depart on Wednesday. The court has scheduled the next hearing for September 17, 2026, at which time the defendant will be expected to enter a plea regarding the criminal charges.
