Cyprus issues new yellow weather warning for extreme heat

The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a series of yellow weather warnings as seasonal low pressure brings sustained high temperatures to the island. On August 3 and 4, 2026, inland temperatures were forecasted to reach approximately 40 degrees Celsius, prompting official warnings for the afternoon periods, specifically between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm on August 3, and between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm on August 4.

Weather conditions remain generally clear across the island, with winds typically ranging from weak to moderate, occasionally reaching 5 Beaufort on southern coasts. Nighttime temperatures are expected to drop to approximately 20 degrees Celsius inland and 22-24 degrees Celsius in coastal areas. While meteorological officials anticipate a slight decrease in temperatures starting Wednesday, they warn that increased humidity levels will maintain a high sense of discomfort for the public, keeping overall conditions similar to the preceding heat-affected days.

Looking ahead, the weather is expected to remain largely sunny and clear through the remainder of the week, with intermittent cloud cover anticipated starting Wednesday and Thursday. Authorities suggest that if temperatures drop sufficiently by mid-week, further yellow warnings may not be required, although the combination of lingering heat and high humidity remains a concern for daily activities.
