Cyprus issues yellow weather warning for extreme heat

The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a yellow weather warning for Monday, August 3, 2026, due to forecasted extreme temperatures. The alert specifically covers inland regions of the island, where the mercury is expected to climb to approximately 40 degrees Celsius.

The warning will be in effect from 14:00 to 17:00 local time. Current forecasts indicate generally clear skies, with winds transitioning from light to moderate, reaching up to force 5 on the Beaufort scale in southern coastal areas. Sea conditions are described as slight, with temperatures along the coast expected to reach 31 to 34 degrees Celsius, and 30 degrees in higher mountainous areas.

Overnight, the weather is anticipated to remain clear with some local low cloud cover, and temperatures will drop to 21 degrees inland, 23 degrees along the coast, and 18 degrees in the mountains. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions during the peak heat hours of the afternoon.
