Cyprus issues yellow weather warning for high temperatures

The Department of Meteorology in Cyprus has issued a yellow weather warning for extreme heat, effective from 14:00 to 16:30 on Thursday, August 6, 2026. Inland areas of the island are expected to reach peak temperatures of approximately 40°C. The current weather pattern is influenced by a seasonal low-pressure system, which has been maintaining elevated temperatures across the region.

Throughout the day, weather conditions will be mostly clear following the dissipation of local morning fog and low cloud cover. While temperatures inland will hit 40°C, coastal areas are forecast to reach between 31°C and 34°C, with the higher mountains cooling down to around 30°C. Winds are expected to shift from light to moderate, occasionally reaching force 5 on the Beaufort scale in southern regions during the afternoon.

Overnight, clear skies will prevail, though some coastal cloud cover and patches of mist or fog are expected to form in eastern and inland areas. Forecasts indicate that weather conditions will remain largely stable through Friday, with only isolated rain showers possible in the mountains. This warning follows a relatively mild July, which saw 11 days of weather alerts despite ranking as the eighth-hottest July since records began in 1968.
