Cyprus meteorological department issues yellow warning for extreme heat

A seasonal low-pressure system is currently affecting Cyprus, leading to an increase in temperatures across the island. The Department of Meteorology has issued a yellow warning for extreme heat, which is scheduled to be in effect on Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 14:00 to 16:30 local time.

During this period, maximum temperatures are expected to reach approximately 40 degrees Celsius in inland areas. While the weather will remain generally clear, local low cloud cover and morning mist or fog are anticipated in some coastal and interior regions. Winds will start light before shifting to south-westerly to north-westerly, occasionally reaching force 5 on the Beaufort scale along southern coastal areas. Temperatures in other parts of the island are forecast to range between 31 and 34 degrees Celsius on the coasts and around 30 degrees Celsius in the higher mountains.
