Legendary Greek musician Lakis Chalkias passes away at 82

Lakis Chalkias, a prominent figure in Greek traditional and folk music, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2026, at the age of 82. Born Michalis Chalkiopoulos in Ioannina on August 30, 1943, he was a member of the fourth generation of the renowned Chalkias musical family and the son of the legendary clarinetist Tasos Chalkias.

Throughout his distinguished career, he collaborated with iconic Greek artists, including Sotiria Bellou, Stelios Kazantzidis, Nikos Xylouris, and composers such as Vasilis Tsitsanis and Yiannis Markopoulos.
