Cypriot passenger fined for undeclared luxury watches at Larnaca airport

On July 29, 2026, customs officials at Larnaca Airport in Cyprus intercepted a Cypriot national arriving from Switzerland who was carrying three undeclared luxury wristwatches. The discovery followed an evaluation of intelligence gathered by authorities, which led officers to search the passenger's luggage upon arrival.

The three watches, with a combined estimated value of approximately €57,000, were not declared by the passenger for the payment of relevant import duties and taxes. As a consequence of this failure to declare the items, the Customs Department imposed a total fine and financial penalty of €4,584. Furthermore, the passenger was required to pay the outstanding duties and taxes, amounting to €10,843, in order to retain the items.

This incident is part of ongoing efforts by the Cypriot authorities to combat the smuggling of high-value goods into the country. Following the payment of the required taxes and penalties, the individual was permitted to take receipt of the items, and no further legal proceedings were reported at this time.
