Archaeologists have revealed harrowing details from the 2017 excavations at the Athalassa Hospital, where 33 patients and nurses were buried after a Turkish airstrike on July 20, 1974. Excavators discovered remains wrapped in blankets and sheets, alongside personal items like medication ampoules, buried in a crater caused by a 500-pound bomb. The project, initiated following persistent efforts by the late Xenophon Kallis, confirmed witness testimonies and utilized physical markers, such as cypress trees planted by survivors, to locate the victims.
