Cypriot startup MammoCheck secures €500,000 for breast cancer AI screening technology

MammoCheck, a Cypriot MedTech startup and spin-out from Frederick University, has secured €500,000 in funding from the Research and Innovation Foundation’s (RIF) SEED program. The project is also co-funded by the European Union and the Republic of Cyprus under the 'THALIA 2021-2027' cohesion policy program. This financial support aims to accelerate the development of an AI-driven platform that integrates thermal imaging to facilitate regular, non-invasive breast health monitoring.

Currently, diagnostic methods like mammography are not routinely recommended for women under 45, leaving a gap in early detection for younger populations. MammoCheck intends to fill this void by providing a supplementary tool for periodic health screening. The company is now focusing on clinical trials, regulatory compliance, and quality management systems to obtain FDA 510(k) clearance in the United States and the CE marking under the European Medical Device Regulation (MDR 2017/745).

By leveraging advanced AI, the startup aims to improve preventative healthcare standards, making breast health monitoring more accessible and frequent for women outside of standard screening age ranges.
