National Council meets to discuss post-Guterres Cyprus developments
On August 3, 2026, the Cypriot National Council held a meeting lasting over two and a half hours at the Presidential Palace, chaired by President Nikos Christodoulides. The session focused on the recent visits to Cyprus by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the newly appointed EU Special Representative for Cyprus, Raffaele Fitto. Deputy Government Spokesman Yannis Antoniou confirmed that the Turkish Cypriot side rejected the UN Secretary-General's proposal for the Pyroi-Athienou crossing, submitting a counter-proposal instead.
