Limassol Criminal Court sentences three individuals for drug trafficking

On August 3, 2026, the Permanent Criminal Court of Limassol concluded a major drug trafficking case by sentencing three individuals, with the primary defendant receiving a 10-year prison term. The case dates back to November 2024, when members of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) conducted a coordinated operation at a coastal hotel parking lot in Agios Tychonas, seizing over 10 kilograms of cannabis and cocaine. Subsequent police investigations at the residence of the third defendant in Nicosia led to the recovery of an additional 7 kilograms of cannabis, bringing the total amount of seized narcotics to over 17 kilograms.

The court issued a 35-page unanimous decision, noting that the defendants' admissions followed an amendment to the charges. A 52-year-old businessman received concurrent sentences of 5 and 4 years after admitting to possession of approximately 11.4 kilograms of drugs, claiming he received them to assist the second defendant. Conversely, the second defendant, a 36-year-old, received a 10-year sentence for possession with intent to supply. The court emphasized that the defendants' honest and immediate admission of guilt was a critical factor in determining the leniency of the sentences.
