Recent narcotics sentencing in Cyprus courts

The Limassol Criminal Court has concluded a major narcotics case from November 2024, sentencing three individuals for the possession and supply of over 17 kilograms of cannabis and cocaine. Following a coordinated operation by the Anti-Narcotics Service (YKAN) at a coastal hotel in Agios Tychonas, authorities seized drugs from a suitcase and later recovered an additional 7 kilograms of cannabis at a residence in Nicosia. A 35-year-old man received a 10-year prison sentence, while a 52-year-old businessman was handed concurrent sentences of 5 and 4 years. The court noted that the 52-year-old was manipulated into holding the drugs, as the 35-year-old had intentionally sought to implicate him.

Separately, the Larnaca Criminal Court issued sentences in multiple drug-related cases. Two 22-year-old men were sentenced to 6 and 2.5 years in prison following a January 31, 2026, operation where over 1.5 kilograms of cannabis were seized from a car and a home. In a different case, a 23-year-old man was sentenced to 5 years in prison after being arrested on February 6, 2026, with approximately one kilogram of cannabis. All defendants entered guilty pleas, which the courts took into account during sentencing.
