Cyprus extends Rent-to-Installment plan application deadline

The Cyprus Ministry of Finance has extended the application period for the Rent-to-Installment (Rent-for-Mortgage) plan until September 30, 2026. The original deadline was July 31, but due to a significant surge in interest, including over 300 applications received in the final five days, the authorities decided to provide an additional two months for vulnerable borrowers to seek protection for their primary residences.

Data from the Cyprus Asset Management Company (KEDIPES) indicates that 4,269 total applications have been received since the program launched in December 2023. Between May 4 and July 31, 2026, during the plan's reopening, 929 new applications were submitted. As of early August, 1,211 residences had been approved for inclusion in the program, with 846 successfully finalized, resulting in the cancellation of associated non-performing loans.

Interested parties must submit hard-copy applications at specific KEDIPES provincial offices located in Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, and Paralimni. KEDIPES officials noted that the assessment process remains time-consuming due to the requirement for property valuations and land registry procedures. The extension is expected to encourage further applications from struggling homeowners looking for a debt resolution pathway.
