Cyprus Consumers Association reports mixed price trends on e-kalathi platform
The Cyprus Consumers Association reported that between July 16 and 31, 2026, price trends for goods listed on the e-kalathi platform showed a cooling in inflation. During this period, 805 products saw an average price increase of 10.6 per cent, while 908 products experienced an average reduction of 11.9 per cent. The highest price hikes were observed in frozen pasta and pizzas at 7.6 per cent, fruit juices at 6.6 per cent, and chocolates and dry pasta at 6.3 per cent.
Despite the decline in price growth, the association expressed concern over the effectiveness of market competition. A survey conducted on July 31 across 12 supermarkets revealed a 15.8 per cent discrepancy in the average total cost of 177 identical items. Among the five supermarkets with the largest inventory, the cost difference for 327 common products remained at 7.6 per cent. The association stated that these significant price variances among participating retailers do not appear to suggest robust competition within the sector.
