Marilena Raouna resigns from the Cypriot government

Marilena Raouna, a key aide to President Nikos Christodoulides, has officially announced her departure from the Cypriot government. On August 3, 2026, she bid farewell to her colleagues at the offices of the Cyprus Presidency Secretariat, confirming that she will not pursue any other role within the administration.

Raouna had previously served as the Deputy Minister to the President for European Affairs. Her departure follows a failed attempt to extend her term after the House of Representatives rejected an urgent legislative motion to prolong her tenure. Despite discussions regarding a potential ministerial appointment or a new institutional role to coordinate European affairs within the Presidential office, new developments that emerged on August 1 made her continued participation in the government untenable.
