Beach brawl in Limassol leads to arrest

A violent altercation occurred on August 2, 2026, in the Amathus area of Limassol, Cyprus, following a dispute over beach access. A 48-year-old Russian national visiting the beach with his family found his path blocked by a vehicle. According to the Russian tourist, he attempted to address the issue, but the situation escalated when a group of associates arrived to support the 40-year-old owner of a local water sports rental business. Reports indicate the victim was assaulted by the group, sustaining a broken nose, bruises, and abrasions, and was struck in the chest with a stone while trying to protect his children inside his vehicle.

The business owner denies the allegations, claiming the tourist instigated the conflict by damaging his vehicle. He admitted to throwing a stone and removing the victim's license plates as "evidence." On August 3, the Limassol court remanded the 40-year-old owner into custody for six days. Police are currently searching for four to five additional suspects who allegedly assisted in the assault. The victim also reported that his temporary license plates were stolen and he was threatened for attempting to contact the authorities.
