Firefighters' vehicles vandalized and looted at Magoula facility
On August 3, 2026, firefighters from the 1st E.MO.D.E. unit discovered that their private vehicles had been vandalized and looted while parked at their service facility in Magoula. The incidents occurred while the personnel were actively engaged in combating severe wildfires across Attica and Boeotia. Reported damages included the removal of vehicle parts, such as wheels, and general forced entry into the cars, sparking widespread outrage among the firefighting community.
The Panhellenic Union of Forest Firefighters highlighted this incident as evidence of severe structural deficiencies and a lack of basic security at the facility, which hosts over 300 firefighters and the Special Motorized Unit (METPE). The union has previously issued warnings regarding the inadequacy of the building facilities and the failure to provide a secure environment for personnel who serve on the front lines under exhausting conditions.
