Reform UK proposes 'Operation Fortress' to address Channel migration

The British political party Reform UK has unveiled a proposal titled 'Operation Fortress,' which would authorize the Royal Navy to intercept migrant vessels in the English Channel and escort them back to the French coast. This plan is presented as a central pillar of the party's platform, spearheaded by leader Nigel Farage, to halt the arrival of small boats crossing from France.

The proposal follows a recent decline in the party's polling numbers, although no general elections are expected in the United Kingdom until 2029. Simultaneously, the party is facing significant legal and ethical scrutiny, as parliamentary and police investigations are underway regarding undisclosed donations to Nigel Farage. Furthermore, the parliamentary ethics committee confirmed that a separate investigation has been launched into party official and member of parliament Richard Tice. Reform UK has also publicly condemned the recent influx of migrants into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, framing the issue within a broader European context.
