Cyprus government unveils new policy framework for adults with disabilities

On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, will present a comprehensive policy framework at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia. The initiative, titled the Policy Framework for Vocational Education and Training, Employment, and Care for Adults with Disabilities, is scheduled to be unveiled at 11:30 am.

The framework aims to establish a unified system for young people with disabilities transitioning into adulthood. It is designed to provide them with dignified vocational training and employment opportunities, fostering their active participation in both social and economic life. The development of this policy was a collaborative effort involving five government ministries, the Deputy Minister to the President, and the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare.

Detailed operational information regarding the framework will be provided by the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Klea Papaellina. The event will also feature addresses by Themis Anthopoulou, President of the Cyprus Confederation of Organizations of the Disabled (KYSOA), and Christos Avgoustinou, President of the Pancyprian Federation of Parents' Associations of Children with Special Needs (POSYGOPEA). This initiative represents a significant administrative attempt to standardize support systems for the disabled community across the country.
