Cyprus weather department issues yellow heat warnings

The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a series of yellow weather warnings due to extreme high temperatures affecting the region. A seasonal low-pressure system is currently driving inland temperatures to reach approximately 40°C. Initial alerts were in effect on August 4, followed by a subsequent yellow warning issued for Thursday, August 6, lasting from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm.

Weather conditions throughout the period remain mostly clear, though occasional intervals of increased cloud are expected. Winds are generally light, ranging from force 3 to 4 on the Beaufort scale, with temporary strengthening to force 5 along the southern coast. Coastal temperatures are forecast to vary significantly, hovering around 30°C to 35°C, while mountain regions expect temperatures between 28°C and 31°C.

Authorities indicate that temperatures are generally trending slightly above seasonal climatological averages. Looking ahead, the forecast suggests that weather conditions will remain mostly clear through the weekend. While temperatures are expected to show little significant change through Saturday, isolated rain may occur in the mountain areas on Friday.
