Neapolis University Paphos wins EU funding for gender research project

Neapolis University Paphos has successfully secured European Union funding under the Horizon Europe programme to coordinate the GENDRIVE project, which focuses on gender equality as a catalyst for research excellence. The university will lead an international consortium, including University College London (UCL), the University of Barcelona, and the Greek organization KMOP, over a 36-month period.

The project was selected following a highly competitive process within the Twinning action of the Widening Participation and Spreading Excellence (WIDERA) programme. The 2026 call for proposals attracted 1,905 submissions by the April 9 deadline, with the EU planning to support approximately 210 projects. GENDRIVE aims to reform institutional practices by integrating gender equality into the core of research and innovation activities rather than treating it as a mere administrative task. The initiative will be based at the university’s Department of History.

This success highlights the growing international profile of the Paphos-based institution. By participating in this high-level partnership, the university seeks to strengthen its research capacity and foster long-term strategic collaboration with prominent European academic and scientific institutions.
