Knife attack in a supermarket in northern Nicosia

On Monday, August 3, at approximately 11:45, a violent incident occurred at the Metropol Market in the Taskinkoy district of northern Nicosia. A 31-year-old man attacked a 22-year-old Kazakhstani national, Zhanerke Abdrazakova, stabbing her multiple times in the sales area. Following the assault, the perpetrator reportedly used the same weapon to attempt suicide by cutting his own throat. Both individuals were rushed to the Dr. Burhan Nalbantoglu State Hospital in critical condition, where the victim underwent surgery.

While the exact motive remains under official investigation, some local media outlets suggest the attack may have been related to the recent breakup of a romantic relationship between the two parties. Law enforcement authorities have not yet officially confirmed this connection and continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the event. Both individuals remain under medical care in serious condition as the investigation proceeds.
