Dubai International Airport to close by 2035

Dubai International Airport (DXB), one of the world's busiest aviation hubs, is scheduled to close permanently in 2035. Following more than 60 years of operations, all services and flight activities will be gradually transitioned to the Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) located in Dubai South. The phased relocation is expected to commence around 2032 and span several years.

A massive reconstruction project worth 28 billion pounds is currently underway at Al Maktoum International Airport to transform it into the largest facility in the world. Upon completion, the new hub will be five times larger than DXB, featuring five runways and 400 aircraft gates. It is designed to accommodate up to 260 million passengers annually. All operations currently managed at DXB, including those by major carriers Emirates and flydubai, will be fully integrated into the expanded DWC site as part of the strategic shift in Dubai's aviation infrastructure.
