Cyprus customs reports €2 million revenue from new parcel duty in July

In July 2026, the Cyprus Customs Department collected nearly €2 million from a new €3 duty imposed on small parcels imported from outside the European Union. The levy applies to individual items within shipments valued under €150. Customs spokesperson George Constantinou reported that officials processed 160,000 parcels containing a total of 650,000 chargeable items during the first month of the policy.

The revenue figures have exceeded initial expectations, as the government previously projected an annual income of approximately €15 million. If the current trend persists, annual collections could exceed €23 million. While import volumes showed a relative decline, authorities attributed this partly to consumers stockpiling orders before the July 1 implementation date and the seasonal impact of the summer holiday period.

Customs officials noted that the first month of data is insufficient to establish a long-term pattern in consumer behavior. The department is continuing to monitor the situation, specifically analyzing how international companies adjust their logistics, such as warehouse locations and direct shipping strategies, to respond to the new taxation requirements.
