Greek doctor suspended from UK hospital over sexual harassment claims

A Greek doctor employed as a senior clinical fellow in gastroenterology at University Hospital Coventry has been suspended from practice for six months. Following a disciplinary hearing, the physician was found guilty of repeated sexually inappropriate behavior directed toward a younger female colleague.

The findings, which surfaced following reports in the Daily Mail, include an incident from July 2023 where the doctor displayed a sexually explicit image and a video of himself on his mobile phone to the colleague at a nurses' station. In a separate incident occurring two months earlier, the doctor allegedly put his arm around the same colleague and stated, "I will have sex with you before I leave" for either Germany or Greece. The woman testified that the doctor appeared indifferent and ironic during these encounters.

While the disciplinary board has already issued the six-month suspension, authorities continue to monitor the case. The accusations have sparked concern regarding workplace safety within the British National Health Service (NHS), with further reviews potentially ongoing to assess the extent of the misconduct.
