Kidney transplant recipient shares recovery journey one year later

Stefanos Loizidis, a former dialysis patient, has publicly shared his experience one year after undergoing a successful kidney transplant. The announcement highlights his long struggle with chronic renal failure, during which he underwent painful dialysis sessions four times a week, with each session lasting three to four hours while connected to a machine.

On August 2, 2025, while attending a routine dialysis session, Loizidis was informed that a donor had been found. The surgical procedure was conducted the following day at the Nicosia General Hospital. Although he faced initial complications and additional hospitalizations because the transplant did not function immediately, he has now successfully returned to his daily life without the need for further dialysis.

Loizidis expressed deep gratitude toward the anonymous organ donor and their family, as well as the medical staff. His testimony serves as a public campaign to raise awareness about the critical importance of organ donation for patients on waiting lists, emphasizing that such procedures represent a life-saving opportunity for those in need.
