Russian paratrooper dies during demonstration jump near Moscow
A 41-year-old veteran of the Russian Airborne Forces died on August 2, 2026, during a public demonstration jump held near Moscow. The accident took place as part of the celebrations for the Russian Airborne Forces Day (VDV). The paratrooper jumped from an altitude of approximately 600 meters, but his main parachute failed to deploy properly.
Following the malfunction, the victim attempted to deploy his reserve parachute; however, the remaining altitude was insufficient to slow his descent, resulting in a fatal impact with the ground. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances of the incident, specifically focusing on the technical failure of the primary parachute equipment used during the event.
