Larnaca Airport reopens arrivals road access for private vehicles

On August 7, 2026, at 3:00 p.m., the road leading to the arrivals area at Larnaca Airport was reopened to public traffic after being closed for 34 months. The restriction, originally imposed in October 2023 for security reasons following the Hamas attack in Gaza, had forced all airport traffic, including pick-ups, to route through the departures level, leading to chronic congestion.

The reopening follows a recent initiative by the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Costas Fytiris, who convened a meeting with stakeholders, including the Cyprus Police, the Department of Public Works, and the airport operator, Hermes Airports. These entities coordinated the necessary operational adjustments to facilitate the change.

While private vehicle access is now restored to improve passenger flow, new traffic regulations are in effect: taxis are strictly prohibited from using the arrivals road. Instead, taxi services must operate from designated areas west of the airport near the bus station. Passengers arriving by taxi are directed to continue using the departures level, and authorities have requested that drivers adhere strictly to new signage to ensure smooth operation.
