Small aircraft makes emergency landing on Florida interstate

A small Piper PA-28 Cherokee aircraft performed an emergency landing on the I-10 interstate in Florida on August 4, 2026, around 11:00 local time. The plane was conducting a training flight and was approaching Pensacola International Airport when the pilot reported engine failure, citing falling oil pressure and smoke in the cockpit. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), two people were on board at the time.

A truck driver on the scene witnessed the plane and braked in time to avoid a collision, allowing the aircraft to land safely in front of him.
