Police discover body of 90-year-old man in Mystras freezer

Authorities in Mystras, Greece, discovered the remains of a 90-year-old man inside a professional freezer located in the basement of a hotel owned by his 55-year-old son. The investigation was initiated following reports that the elderly man, born in 1936, had been missing for a significant period. While the suspect initially claimed his father was living in Athens, questioning of the suspect's sister revealed she had not seen their father for years, prompting a police search with a prosecutor present.

The 55-year-old suspect, now in custody, admitted to keeping the body in the freezer for approximately two and a half years to continue collecting his deceased father's pension. Some reports further indicate he may have also been collecting the pension of his late mother. However, local residents dispute this timeline, suggesting the elderly man had not been seen for four to five years. The suspect is facing charges of fraud, perjury, and illegal weapons possession.

A forensic examination was conducted on the scene, with initial findings showing no obvious signs of physical injury. Further investigation is underway, including a full autopsy, to determine the exact cause and time of death and to reconcile the conflicting accounts regarding how long the man had been deceased.
