Communities demand action on Kalo Chorio firing range following wildfire

Representatives from several local communities held a meeting on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the Psevdas Community Council offices to address ongoing concerns regarding the operation of the Kalo Chorio firing range. This collective action follows a destructive wildfire on July 27, 2026, which has fueled widespread anxiety among residents concerning public safety and environmental protection.

The meeting, organized with the participation of the Larnaca Community Union and the Tremithos River community cluster, including Agia Anna, Kalo Chorio, Psevdas, Mosfiloti, and Pyrga, focused on the safety of residents and the protection of private property. Officials and local representatives stated that the safety of citizens is non-negotiable and criticized past mistakes that may have contributed to recent incidents. They are now demanding transparency and accountability from the authorities regarding the July 27 fire.

The communities are currently awaiting a second scheduled meeting with the Minister of Defense, which is set to take place in mid-September. No further decisions regarding potential protests or specific escalations will be made until after this discussion with the government ministry.
