Woman recovers winning million-euro lottery ticket from trash in Italy
A woman in Bari, Italy, successfully recovered a winning lottery ticket worth one million euros after mistakenly discarding it. The incident occurred on Sunday following the latest lottery drawing.
The woman had taken her ticket to a local convenience store to verify the results. Because small retailers are only authorized to pay out minor prizes, the terminal displayed a status indicating the ticket could not be processed there, leading the owner to believe it was a losing entry. She left the ticket at the shop, but upon returning home, a family member informed her that the numbers matched those drawn. Realizing her error, she contacted municipal sanitation authorities.
Roberto Nicola Toscano, director of the local waste management company SANB, confirmed that the ticket was found intact after workers spent an entire day searching through massive volumes of waste inside a garbage truck. The recovery of the ticket, which has been described by officials as a miraculous outcome, allows the woman to claim her million-euro prize.
