Two men arrested in Nicosia for drug possession and illegal weapons

On August 4, 2026, members of the Cyprus Drug Squad (YKAN) arrested two men, aged 51 and 47, in the Nicosia district following an intelligence-led operation. The 51-year-old was apprehended during a vehicle search where officers discovered 90 grams of cannabis and a partially smoked cannabis cigarette.

In a related operation, the 47-year-old suspect was stopped, and police found three knives inside his vehicle. A subsequent search of his residence revealed 2.32 kilograms of dry cannabis, a grinder with drug residue, and €10,800 in cash. Both suspects were taken into custody and were scheduled to appear before the Nicosia District Court on August 5, 2026, to face detention proceedings.

This investigation highlights ongoing efforts by local authorities to intercept illegal narcotics in the Nicosia area. The evidence gathered from both vehicles and the residence is currently undergoing further forensic examination.
