Cyprus-born pianist Mark Albert Staikovici wins bronze at Vienna international competition

Thirteen-year-old Cyprus-born pianist Mark Albert Staikovici has secured the Bronze Award at the 3rd Vienna International Piano Competition 2026. The event took place at the historic Ehrbar Saal in Vienna, Austria, as part of the city's Summer Festival.

The competition saw high levels of international participation, with over 220 young musicians from 50 countries applying to perform. From this pool, only 72 pianists were selected to compete in the live rounds. Staikovici successfully advanced to the second round, where he performed a demanding repertoire that highlighted his technical and musical skills. These performances were broadcasted via live stream to a global audience.

Staikovici was born in 2013 and continues to reside in Cyprus, while maintaining his Romanian heritage. He began his formal piano education at age nine under the guidance of teacher Zbyněk Maruška, who recognized his early potential. Since then, the young musician has rapidly built a notable career, securing several significant honors on the international stage. The competition organizers utilized the historic venue to provide a platform for emerging talent, marking a significant milestone in the career of the young pianist.
