34-year-old Israeli man drowns in Limassol

A 34-year-old Israeli man from Jerusalem died by drowning on Tuesday while swimming with his family at a beach in Limassol, Cyprus. The man vanished under unclear circumstances, prompting his relatives to search the area for approximately two hours. He was eventually spotted floating in the water by a paraglider, who alerted emergency services.

Local lifeguards recovered the man from the sea and called for an ambulance, but despite rescue efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was subsequently transported to the Limassol General Hospital. The incident is currently under investigation by local authorities to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy.

The Israeli volunteer organization ZAKA is coordinating with the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cypriot officials to facilitate the repatriation of the victim's remains to Israel for burial. Chaim Weingarten, ZAKA's deputy director of operations, has characterized the event as a major tragedy and stated that the organization is in close contact with the family to ensure the deceased is brought home as soon as possible.
