34-year-old Israeli man drowns at a beach in Limassol

A 34-year-old Israeli man from Jerusalem died by drowning on Tuesday at a beach in Limassol, Cyprus. The man was swimming with his family when he suddenly disappeared from their sight. His relatives conducted an intensive search along the shoreline and in the water for approximately two hours.

The search concluded after a motorized paraglider pilot flying over the area spotted the man floating in the water and alerted the authorities. Lifeguards and emergency responders arrived at the scene and pulled him from the sea, but were unable to revive him, pronouncing him dead on site.

The Israeli volunteer organization ZAKA is currently coordinating with the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cypriot authorities to facilitate the repatriation of the victim's remains to Israel for burial. Chaim Weingarten, Deputy Director of Operations for ZAKA, described the incident as a major tragedy, confirming that efforts are underway to return the deceased to his home as quickly as possible.
