Mykonos taxi driver arrested for theft of luxury items from tourist

On August 5, 2026, a 34-year-old Greek national was arrested in Mykonos on charges of theft involving a 29-year-old Ukrainian tourist. The incident occurred on the Mykonos–Ano Mera provincial road, where the driver allegedly demanded that the passenger hand over high-value personal belongings as collateral to ensure payment for a trip to a hotel in Elia.

The items surrendered by the tourist included a Hermès handbag valued at 15,000 euros and a Rolex Day-Date watch valued at 60,000 euros, totaling 75,000 euros. After the passenger exited the vehicle at approximately 06:20, the driver drove away, keeping the items. Police later located the suspect and recovered the stolen goods, which had been hidden under rocks near the Holy Church of Saint Patapios in an attempt to conceal the evidence.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the suspect faces criminal charges. Authorities are currently processing the legal proceedings following the recovery of the luxury items.
