President Christodoulides conducts cabinet reshuffle in Cyprus

Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides announced a cabinet reshuffle on August 4, 2026, aimed at maintaining the center-right orientation of his government as he enters the second half of his term. The changes involve four key positions: Tina Pavlou replaces Clea Papaellina as Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, with Papaellina moving to the position of Deputy Minister of Culture. Additionally, Evanthia Tsolaki was appointed Minister of Transport, and Christos Senekis takes over the Ministry of Agriculture. The reshuffle also included the appointments of Ilias Myrianthous as Commissioner for the Environment and Animal Welfare, Irini Poyiatzi as Commissioner for the Citizen, and Panagiotis Palates as the Director of the President’s Office.

Following the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for August 6, 2026, the new cabinet will hold its first official meeting. Government spokesman Victor Papadopoulos noted that the appointments were based on the candidates' prior public achievements and their support for the president's political program. While reports suggested possible shifts for Health Minister Neofytos Charalambides, he remains in his current post following internal political discussions within the Diko party. The reshuffle is intended to ensure continuity for the final 18 months of the current administration ahead of the 2028 elections.
