President Christodoulides swears in new cabinet members
On August 6, 2026, President Nikos Christodoulides oversaw the swearing-in ceremony of new government members at the Presidential Palace in Cyprus. This follows a mini-cabinet reshuffle announced on Tuesday. The new appointments include Evanthia Tsolaki as Minister of Transport, Communications and Works; Christos Senekis as Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment; Tina Pavlou as Deputy Minister of Social Welfare; and Clea Papaellina as Deputy Minister of Culture. Additionally, Elias Myrianthous was appointed Commissioner for the Environment and Animal Welfare, Irene Poyiatzi as Citizens' Commissioner, and Panayiotis Palates as Director of the President's Office.
President Christodoulides expressed his gratitude to outgoing ministers Alexis Vafeades, Maria Panayiotou, and Vasiliki Kassianidou for their service. During his address, the President emphasized a "zero grace period" for the new appointees, urging them to work tirelessly to implement the government's agenda, which is rooted in social liberalism. Key priorities include the resolution of the Cyprus issue, strengthening national defense, and fostering a resilient economy.
Following the oath-taking, the officials commenced a series of handover ceremonies throughout the day. The new cabinet is scheduled to hold its first meeting at 13:00 to begin coordinating its work under the current administration's mandate.
