Nine-year-old boy injured in summer camp accident in Crete

On the morning of Tuesday, August 4, 2026, a nine-year-old boy sustained serious injuries during an accident at a summer camp in Heraklion, Crete. Under circumstances currently under investigation, a wooden beam fell on the child’s head. Emergency responders from the National Centre for Emergency Care (EKAB) transported the boy to the Venizeleio Hospital in Heraklion for initial examination and first aid.

Following the initial assessment, doctors determined that the child required specialized care and transferred him to the University Hospital of Heraklion (PAGNI), where he is currently receiving treatment. Medical staff have reported that, despite the severity of the head injury, the boy's life is not in immediate danger. Authorities are investigating the conditions that led to the collapse of the beam at the camp facility.
