Several athletes go missing after Glasgow Commonwealth Games

Police Scotland has confirmed that several athletes are unaccounted for following the conclusion of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last Sunday. Authorities are currently investigating the situation and coordinating with the Home Office to determine the status of these individuals.

Reports indicate that four members of the Ugandan boxing team failed to board their return flight on Tuesday, with at least one athlete informing media outlets of an intention to seek asylum. Additionally, Pakistan Today reported that one of their national boxers also failed to appear for their scheduled flight home. These events follow a pattern observed in previous Commonwealth Games, such as the 2018 Gold Coast event where dozens of participants remained in the host country after the conclusion of the games.

Enquiries remain ongoing as officials assess the circumstances surrounding these disappearances. The 11-day event, which hosted approximately 3,000 athletes from 74 nations, has frequently been associated with athletes seeking to remain in the host countries, leading to significant administrative challenges for immigration authorities in previous years.
