Cyprus records annual rise in registered unemployment for July 2026

Data released by the Statistical Service of Cyprus shows that the number of registered unemployed persons in the country reached 11,728 at the end of July 2026. This figure represents an annual increase of 640 individuals, or 5.8%, compared to July 2025. The rise is primarily attributed to sectors including administrative and support service activities, accommodation and food services, public administration, and education.

Despite the annual increase, seasonally adjusted data indicates a slight month-on-month improvement. The seasonally adjusted number of registered unemployed fell to 10,504 in July 2026 from 10,564 in June 2026, suggesting a cooling trend in unemployment levels.

According to the actual statistics, the highest concentration of unemployed individuals is found in the public administration and defense sector with 3,193 people, followed by education with 1,731, and the wholesale/retail trade sector with 1,355. Conversely, unemployment in the hotel and restaurant industry saw a decline to 889 individuals.
