University of Cyprus adds 890 temporary parking spaces to campus

The University of Cyprus is launching a project to develop three temporary parking areas on its campus, aiming to alleviate long-standing congestion issues for students. The initiative will provide a total of 890 additional parking spaces, addressing the chronic frustration of daily commutes and vehicle damage caused by inadequate parking facilities.

According to Vasos Olympiou, the head of the university’s Technical Services, the project spans three locations: the area between the Library and the Senate building, the space between Teaching Space 2 (XOD 2) and the Sports Centre, and an area east of the Sports Centre entrance. This third location was previously inaccessible for parking and will now be newly adapted for use. The €250,000 project, funded by the university budget, involves laying compacted gravel and installing drainage systems to eliminate mud, dust, and uneven surfaces.

For years, students have struggled with insufficient infrastructure, forcing many to arrive well ahead of time to secure a spot. The university expects that these infrastructure improvements will resolve current traffic bottlenecks and improve the overall daily experience for the campus community.
