Cyprus expands water-saving initiative amid rising consumption

The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment of Cyprus continues its nationwide 'Water, for Tomorrow' campaign, distributing water-saving equipment to households. As of August 5, 2026, approximately 35 percent of the planned kits, which include tap aerators and shower flow restrictors, have been delivered. Distribution has been completed in the Paphos and Famagusta districts, with full national rollout expected by mid-September. The government is also providing equipment to high-consumption venues and organized groups.

Despite these efforts, the Ministry reported that current water consumption remains higher than in the same period last year, highlighting an urgent need for more responsible usage. Households are strongly encouraged to install their received devices immediately, as they can reduce water consumption by up to 30 percent without impacting user comfort.

Separately, the Limassol District Government (EOA) has introduced a supplementary awareness campaign to support the cabinet's goal of a 10 percent reduction in water use. Led by EOA President Yiannis Tsouloftas, the Limassol initiative employs multi-level strategies, including social media outreach, humorous educational videos featuring Orpheas Solomou, and community-focused projects such as children's books and quizzes to promote long-term conservation habits.
