Cyprus ministry updates on water-saving campaign progress

On August 5, 2026, the Cypriot Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announced that 35 percent of its free water-saving kits have been distributed to households across the country as part of the “Water, for Tomorrow” campaign.

The distribution process has successfully concluded in the Paphos and Famagusta districts, with operations currently underway in the remaining regions. In addition to residential distribution, the ministry has provided equipment to high-consumption locations and organized groups across the island. The full nationwide rollout is expected to be completed by mid-September.

Despite the distribution of tap aerators and shower flow restrictors—devices capable of reducing water consumption by up to 30 percent without compromising user comfort—the ministry reported that overall water usage remains higher than during the same period last year. Consequently, officials have urged all households that have received the kits to install them immediately. The ministry emphasizes that the current usage levels highlight an urgent need for more rational water consumption and stronger adherence to conservation measures by all citizens.
