Fifth suspect arrested in connection with Hamas terror plot in Cyprus

Cypriot police have arrested a fifth individual in connection with a major terrorism case that was first uncovered in May 2026. The latest suspect is a 32-year-old Palestinian man residing in Limassol, whose involvement had not been previously disclosed. Authorities allege that he facilitated the travel of a key suspect to Turkey, where instructions for planned terrorist attacks in Cyprus were reportedly issued.

The investigation originally began with the arrest of two Palestinian men, aged 32 and 38, identified as members of a Hamas network. Subsequently, a 54-year-old Palestinian holding Cypriot citizenship was taken into custody, followed by the July 18 arrest of a 41-year-old man in Indonesia, who is suspected of acting as the network's handler. Evidence suggests that members of the group traveled to Malaysia for training and held strategic meetings in Istanbul to orchestrate the plot.

All five suspects remain in custody as the legal proceedings continue. The group is scheduled to appear in court again this Thursday to face further developments in the ongoing investigation.
