Fifth suspect arrested in Hamas-linked terrorism plot in Cyprus

Cypriot authorities have arrested a fifth suspect in connection with an alleged Hamas-linked terror cell plotting attacks against Israeli interests in the Republic of Cyprus. The latest individual taken into custody is a 32-year-old Palestinian resident of Limassol, whose arrest was finalized in July but only recently disclosed. Investigators believe the man facilitated the travel of a key suspect to Turkey, where instructions for the planned operations were reportedly issued.

The investigation began in May with the arrest of two Palestinian men, aged 32 and 38, found near Pentakomo. Authorities later apprehended a 54-year-old Palestinian with Cypriot citizenship and a 41-year-old individual, identified as the alleged network leader, who was deported to Cyprus from Indonesia in July. The group members are accused of serious crimes, including terrorism, conspiracy to commit murder, money laundering, and membership in a criminal organization.

All five defendants are appearing before the Larnaca Criminal Court today. The proceedings involve merging three separate criminal cases into one unified indictment to facilitate a single trial. The suspects remain in detention under high security.
